Dorset’s Mezzo Soprano Charlotte Hewett Returns Home To Raise Money For Local Charity

One of Dorset’s most gifted musical talents debuts at Lighthouse to raise vital funds for Julia’s House Charity in light of severe Government cuts

The Dorset Mezzo soprano, Charlotte Hewett, returns to her hometown to host a recital of romantic classics to raise money for Julia’s House Charity on 21 February as she makes her debut at Lighthouse, Poole.  As the only children’s hospice charity in Dorset dedicated to helping life-limited children and their families, Charlotte will use the power of song to raise much needed funds for this invaluable charity, who are now one of the worst funded hospices in the UK.

Sunday 21st February 2.30pm Charlotte Hewett presents Be My Love

Hot-footing from her Masters studies at the Guildhall School of Music in London, this talented 25-year-old, classically trained, mezzo soprano, will present a programme of beautiful English song with composers such as Roger Quilter, French romantics from Poulenc; as well as arias from Handel’s Xerxes, Puccini’s Gianni Schicci and Bizet’s Carmen. There will also be some lighter classics from The Merry Widow and Gilbert and Sullivan’s Mikado to lighten the mood. Once a pupil of Lilliput Primary School, and a regular ‘principal’ with Dorset Opera, this local performance comes as a huge treat for Charlotte as she makes her debut at the Poole Lighthouse.

Charlotte will be joined by her younger brother, George (20), a virtuoso saxophonist and singer. George recently left Clayesmore School where he was a regular performer on the concert platform with classical voice, jazz voice, saxophone, piano, clarinet and composition. George will bring a jazzy edge to the concert.

The afternoon will also feature romantic duets with London based Tenor, Andrew Brown, who also studies at the Guildhall with Charlotte. After finishing a season at Grange Park Opera last summer we are in for a treat with this exciting young Tenor. Accompanying the recital will be well-known local musician Caroline D’Cruz**.

The concert will raise money for Julia’s House Charity***. Julia’s House offers regular respite sessions at their hospice in Corfe Mullen, Dorset, and with families’ own homes across Dorset and Wiltshire. They also run events for siblings and parents – supporting the whole family.  Their respite care is a lifeline to parents who are looking after a very sick child 24 hours a day, giving them vital time to relax in the knowledge that the hospice is caring for their loved ones.

Charlotte’s concert at Lighthouse aims to raise as much money for the Julia’s House Charity as possible, so she calls on everyone to attend, “Just being there with us on the day will help this charity enormously,” states Charlotte, “The work of Julia’s House is vital to our community and as the Government slice back funds making this hospice one of the worst funded in the UK, it’s time for us to join together to help each other.”
